A proof is a way of ensuring that we have set your type/art accurately and that everything is positioned according to your requirements. Typically, we will produce a proof which will be sent to you online via email or printed on paper which can be viewed in our store front.

We can print from Adobe Creative Suite files that are version CS3 or earlier and Quark files up to 6.5. PDF files are also acceptable for digital printing. We do not accept Microsoft Office files, Publisher, or Corel Draw.

- Files under 8MB can be submitted by email to info@printaj.com
- Files under 100MB can be uploaded to our FTP. Contact us for details.
- For larger file sizes, please provide your files on a disc.

Flat size refers to the final cut size of the printed artwork before any additional bindery (ie. folding) has been applied.

Finished size refers to the size of a printed piece after all bindery processes have been applied, such as trimming, die-cutting, folding and binding.

A crop mark is a line printed outside the finished size of a piece that shows where the piece is to be cut to size.

A bleed is any image that extends beyond the trim size of a printed piece. A bleed is necessary on any image that extends to the edge of the trimmed sheet, since it is impossible to cut precisely on the edge of an image. A bleed typically extends 0.125" beyond the trim edge.

A PMS colour is a colour that is printed in an ink mixed according to the Pantone Matching System, which is a system of mixing colours by weight, using a standardized set of basic ink colours. Pantone colours are used in spot colour printing as opposed to four colour process.

Spot colours are custom mixed colours commonly used in one, two and three colour printing where reproduction of colour photos is not required. Four colour process refers to the process whereby all colours are broken down into four ink colours: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. These four colours combined in various intensities are capable of reproducing colours found in photos and other full colour images.

A vector graphic is an image which shape, position, colour, and density can be scalable and is resolution independent. A bitmapped image is described in pixels and when scaled up the pixels are enlarged and can show a jagged edge if enlarged beyond the optimum size. Adobe Illustrator can be used to create vector images. Scanning and creating images in Adobe Photoshop will create bitmapped images.

Outlining a font turns it into a vector graphic and eliminates the need to supply fonts along with your files. Once outlined, a font can no longer be typeset.
